Letter stencils with real bridges at the finished size, split across sheets. For signs, T-shirts and pumpkins: type your words and the size, then download a free PDF or SVG.

US Letter (11 × 8.5 in) [279 × 216 mm]

One line or a few, up to 60 characters; each line stays as you typed it. Letters with holes (A, B, O, R, 8 and the like) get bridges so the middles stay attached.

Presets

A preset sets the size and bridges below; your text stays. Change anything after.

Layout

Sign: your lines as one stencil at the finished size; bigger than a sheet, it is split across sheets between the letters, with a page map. Separate letters: rows packed on as few pages as possible. One letter per sheet: each letter centered on its own sheet, for big signs.

Size by

Board centers the lettering on a board of that size, with the board’s edge drawn so you can line the sheets up with it.

Bridge width

The bars that hold the middles of A, B, O and R. Wide bridges make a sturdier stencil (pumpkins, foam); thin ones show less in the paint.

Letter spacing

Wide leaves more card between the letters: a sturdier stencil.

How it works

  1. Type your words. One line or a few, up to 60 characters. Every closed letter (A, B, D, O, P, R, 0, 4, 6, 8, 9 and the lowercase ones) gets a bridge on each side of its middle, drawn as part of the cut line.
  2. Set the finished size. A letter height from 1.5 in [4 cm], a finished width or height, or a whole board such as 24 × 8 in [61 × 20 cm]. A stencil bigger than one sheet is split across sheets, with a page map, gray overlap strips and corner marks to trim and tape.
  3. Download and cut. Free, with no sign-up and no watermark: the PDF on US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) or A4 [210 × 297 mm] for a craft knife, or the SVG for Cricut or Silhouette. Print at 100% (“Actual size”) and check the 1 in bar on the sheet.

Tips for clean stencils

  • Sign makers: use the Wood sign preset or type your board’s size; the dashed board edge on the sheets lines up with the board, so the lettering lands centered. Tape the trimmed sheets together, then trace or cut through onto stencil film.
  • T-shirts: print the T-shirt preset on freezer paper (plain side), cut, iron it shiny side down and paint with fabric paint. Keep the bridges thin so they barely show.
  • Parents, pumpkins: the Pumpkin face words preset uses wide bridges and wide spacing, so the carved letters stay strong. Tape the sheet to the pumpkin and poke along the lines.
  • Movers and small businesses: Crate number makes 4 in [10 cm] numbers; cut them from a file folder and spray through for boxes and crates.
  • Crafters cutting by hand: print on cardstock, cut the gray parts out on a mat with a craft knife, inside shapes first, and never cut through a bridge. Dab paint straight down; do not brush across the edges.
