How it works
- Choose a Venn diagram or the cut-and-sort pack. Start from a preset (two characters, two animals, fractions and decimals, then and now) or type a title and a label for 2 or 3 circles. For the pack, type each item with its circle, such as “lay eggs in water: both”.
- Set the look. Writing lines 3/8 in [10 mm] or 1/2 in [13 mm] apart inside the circles, an outline or a light tint per circle in 16 colors (or any color), with dots and stripes so the overlap shows without color, a sentence frame under the diagram, and a NAME / DATE line. The circles are always the largest that fit the page.
- Download the PDF and print. The pack prints the mat, the cards mixed up so they are not in their groups (a word, or a word with a picture box) and the answer key last, counted on the button (“2 pages + key”). Portrait or landscape, US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) or A4 [210 × 297 mm]; free, no sign-up, no watermark.
Tips for Venn diagrams
- K–2 teachers: the cut-and-sort pack with picture boxes makes a science or math center: children cut, sort and glue, then you check against the key. Print the mat on cardstock to reuse it.
- Teachers, grades 3–8: compare two characters with 3/8 in writing lines and the sentence frame, so the diagram turns into a paragraph.
- Science and social studies teachers: three circles compare three characters, countries or animals; type “all” for what all three share and “frogs and toads” for a pair.
- Color-blind students and gray printers: choose Tint and pattern; the dots and stripes still tell the circles and the overlap apart.
- Parents and homeschoolers: “Then and now” is a quick history talk at the kitchen table; add your own family items to the list.
- Writers, from diagram to paragraph: sort the notes into a 2 column notes template, one column per side, before writing the paragraph.
