Make a classroom seating chart from your roster. K–12 teachers shuffle with keep-apart and front-row rules, click two desks to swap, then print the free sub-ready pack.

US Letter (11 × 8.5 in) [279 × 216 mm]

One name per line; a dash (-) keeps a desk empty. A private note goes after a bar (Emma | helper) and prints only on the teacher’s view. Names stay on this device.

Click two desks in the preview to swap them. Keyboard: Tab to the chart, arrows to move, Enter to pick and swap, Escape to cancel.

Class size

A class size sets the rows, desks or pods for the layout below.

Rules for the shuffle

One pair (or group) per line: Liam + Noah. They never sit side by side, front to back or at the same table.

Names that need the front row (IEP or 504 seating, vision, hearing), separated by commas. Shuffle places them first; the rules stay on this device.

How it works

  1. Paste your roster and pick the room. One name per line, a dash for an empty desk, a private note after a bar (Emma | helper). Choose a class size (20, 24, 28 or 32) or set rows, pairs, pods of 4 or 6, or a U-shape yourself.
  2. Seat the class. As typed, A to Z, or a numbered shuffle that keeps the pairs you list apart and puts front-row names (IEP, 504, vision, hearing) at the front. Then click any two desks in the preview to swap them; Undo takes back the last swap.
  3. Print the pages you need. The teacher’s view (front of the room at the bottom, as you see the class), the class view for the board or the substitute, and name tents to fold for every desk. Download the PDF on US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) or A4 [210 × 297 mm]: free, no sign-up, no watermark.

Tips for seating charts

  • Teachers: your roster stays private. Names, notes and rules stay in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere and none of it goes into the page address. Copy the settings link to keep the room layout and shuffle number; the names are never in it.
  • Substitute teachers read the class view best: it shows the room the way the class faces it. Leave it in the sub folder with the name tents on the desks, and the sub knows every name by the first period.
  • Teachers, write down the shuffle number. The same roster, rules and number bring the same chart back next term; your swaps are kept in the settings link too.
  • Elementary teachers, tables by color: give pods a light tint or a pattern band and name them Table 1, 2, 3 or by color (“Blue table, line up”). Patterns keep the groups apart on a black-and-white printer.
  • Teachers, a blank chart for pencil planning: clear the roster and you get the desk layout with empty desks, ready to fill in by hand.
  • Middle and high school teachers, one chart per period: change the title to the period and keep a copy with your daily schedule or weekly schedule for substitute teachers.
